Live from SES NY – Day One Wrap

March 25, 2009

The Donger Need Food!

Ok, so maybe I am showing my age here, but that eighties “Sixteen Candles” reference pretty much says it all and then some!

The first day was the usual. Fast paced, lots of hellos and card swapping, socializing with old friends, meeting new people and of course “networking events”.  Of course networking is code for – There will be a lot of alcohol and usually without time for food. Which was the case here as well. Unfortunately, to protect the guilty umm I mean innocent those happenings will be left as memories in our minds and not shared in the blogosphere. As we say in Las Vegas, “What Happens Here, Stays Here!”. It is our code.

Networking

That being said, there is an unfortunate lack of sponsored networking events this year, which some my discount as frivolity, but those networking events are probably some of the most useful of the conference. It is where people are most relaxed and so they are fun and the nights are eventful and just what makes SESNY a very important conference for me. Networking allows time to bond, to share and to feel connected to those we only usually know via twitter, facebook or whatever social media you use.

So thus there is disappointment in SES’s networking schedule this year. With the lack of a WebMaster Radio Bash and the moving of the Charity Party to Monday night, I could not make it til Tuesday, it means that almost all the socializing and networking was last night. Unless, of course, you are lucky enough to be invited to some of the invitation only events and thankfully, the networking gods took pity and I.

But for those of you who are new to SES, I think it is unfortunate that those did not take place as you do not know how much they can add to your conference experience. Have no fear though, this lack of events should be a one time issue with SES NY. By next year they should be back to their normal routine,  at least that is what I was told and so that is what I hope!

Ok off to get a few mins nap in before the next round starts! Will post about video optimization as soon as I can get back on-line tomorrow or Fri.

Smiles!
